THE Year 9 XL group is well into its first
project.
With the school garden in need of a good tidy up
(top picture) and the idea of growing fruit and
vegetables in school from Mr Reed. The group,
led by teacher Mr Leigh Taylor and social studies
teaching assistant Mrs Woodcock, were given the
‘Groundforce’ task!
After drawing up plans and ideas for the garden
piece, the group members soon wanted to get on
and get their hands dirty.
The group of 15 soon got digging and removing
a lot of weeds and plants, cutting back overgrown
shrubs and removing a whole host of general
rubbish that had mounted up in the area.
Mr Taylor said: “They have worked tremendously
hard and already you can see a difference. They
are taking great pride in their work and they can’t
wait to start to plant their vegetation and plants.”
Once the fruit and vegetables have been planted
and are ready to be picked the produce will be
used in the College Canteen as part of the
HealthySchools programme that Haven High
